Canine allergies

Canine allergies are allergy manifestations in all kinds of dogs. Even the most exotic and expensive breed may manifest an allergic reaction. Allergy free dogs or hypoallergenic dogs breeds will not be the cause of an allergy to their owners, (who are allergy prone,) but they could have allergic symptoms.
There are many causes for canine allergies. Unlike humans who have runny nose, sinusitis, itchy eyes, as symptoms, dogs have skin reactions, itchiness and ear infections.
Sometimes it will be difficult to diagnose canine allergies and it can be frustrating for the dog owner.
Allergens like pollen, dust mites, molds, are the triggers. Some dogs may be sensitive to certain proteins or substances found in canine food. These are called canine food allergies. Milk, wheat, eggs and certain commercial dog food are common causes for canine food allergies.
The symptoms could be scratching, biting, licking and chewing at feet. This could progress to a severe ear infection. The dog’s skin may have an odor. In severe cases of canine allergies, the skin may have scabs or sores.
There are various treatments for canine allergies. Antihistamines, allergy shots, immunotherapy, corticosteroids are some of the options available in treating canine allergies.
